The history of the Shouksmith Group can be traced back to 1820 when Joseph Shouksmith became a Freeman of the City of York.
By 1919 the company, J H Shouksmith & Sons Ltd was formed, one of the first limited liability companies to operate in York.
Expansion continued with other divisions being added including Turner & Pritchard Ltd in Gloucester joining the Group in 1966. This division now trades as Shouksmiths since May 2006.
In 1976 H Morfitt & Son Ltd of Leeds joined the Group, further, strengthening the commercial and industrial mechanical capability.
Further geographical expansion took place in 1985 when Briggs and Hunt in Worksop was acquired by the Group. This divison was relocated to Sheffield in 2005 and now trades as Shouksmiths.
At the beginning of 1996 the Group was restructured and the former subsiduary companies ceased to operate. Their trading activities were all transfered to trading divisions of J H Shouksmith & Sons Ltd.
In 1998, as the industry moved towards mechanical and electrical packages the decision was taken to form an Electrical Division within Morfitts.
In 2006 Shouksmiths moved into the North West of England with the acquisition of Keda Plumbing Company Ltd which now trades as Shouksmiths in Bolton.
In 2007 Morfitts relocated to its new purpose built offices at Colton Mills, Leeds.
Through out its long history the Shouksmith Group has always remained a family run business. Our current Group Chairman is Richard Shouksmith. His two sons Edward and David both work for the Group, the seventh generation of the family to be involved with the business.
