Sustainable Solutions In Action For The Lighthouse Group
Monday, 2nd June 2008
Morfitts has recently completed the £780,000 mechanical and electrical design and installation project at The Lighthouse Group’s new, purpose built ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Bradford.
Keen to use sustainable solutions for its energy sources, at the client’s request Morfitts installed a solar heating system which assists in the heating of the hot water services for the building, resulting in considerable savings on its’ fuel bills. Depending on the external conditions, there will be numerous days when no fossil fuel at all is used to heat up the hot water needed for the building.
John Cundale, Morfitts’ Project Engineer said: “Whilst solar power has been around for quite a while, demand for it and other green solutions on commercial properties is definitely increasing. The system we installed at The Lighthouse Group is becoming more common on the projects we are undertaking. We are at present involved with solar systems on other projects, as well as natural ventilation systems to cool buildings, biomass wood chip boiler installations and ground source heat pumps, which use fuel from a renewable source.”
Working with main contractor York House Construction, the £3.6m project was officially opened in May.
