Leading the way – Colin Foster celebrates 50 years with Shouksmiths
Tuesday, 7th October 2008
Colin Foster, director of Shouksmiths, is this year celebrating 50 years service with the company. Starting as an apprentice plumber in 1958, Colin progressed through the company to spend 21 years as its’ managing director, witnessing many changes within the building services sector along the way.
Today, Colin remains a director of the company, and is also a national judge of apprentices studying sheet lead work, and a nationally acclaimed expert on the topic. With its impressive green credentials, sheet lead is a material that is as popular now as it was 50 years ago.
Working on projects including York Minster, Temple Newsam, York Guildhall and countless churches and stately homes, Colin’s and the company’s lead work skills can be seen across Yorkshire and beyond.
Colin is also a perfect example of Shouksmiths’ long held belief in the importance of training and development. Since the founder of the business, master craftsman plumber and glazier Joseph Shouksmith became a Freeman of the City of York in 1820 so that he could employ workmen.
Colin commented: “For Shouksmiths, investing in training is considered a core business requirement and our Training Programme sits at the heart of all we do.”
