A new, 'complete package' project in Glasgow

Morfitts and Shouksmiths' North West Division are currently delivering a 'complete package' project for main contractor PDR Construction in the heart of Glasgow city centre. The £1 million M&E contract, due for completion this November, is part of an overall £4 million conversion of office space in George Square into 45 city living apartments.

The mechanical element of the contract focuses around the central boiler plant and incoming services which serve all 45 apartments via individual heat meters. In addition to this, new heating pipe work, radiators, hot water cylinders, plumbing and sanitary ware is being fitted, plus new lighting, power and fire alarm systems within all apartments and communal areas. The project also includes the installation of a TV system, a door entry system, a sub-mains and distribution network.

As with most city centre projects, logistics and space are the key to success. With limited storage available and the ground floor occupied throughout the duration of the conversion, supplies have had to be delivered on a 'just in time' basis.

Paul Baldwin, Morfitts' Divisional Contracts Director said: "Our approach to delivering 'complete package' projects is based on three main things – good communication, a skilled and integrated team and a commitment to delivering a quality product. The work we are doing in Glasgow is challenging, but using our integrated approach, is well on track and we look forward to handing it over to PDR in November."
