The No Smoking Ban … do you know what it could mean for your ventilation system?

Ventilation systems used to be sized differently depending on whether the occupants were smokers, non smokers or a combination of both. A non smoking building would require less fresh air per occupant than a building occupied by smokers. This would have an effect on the size of the ventilation plant to be installed and obviously cost.

Now, as the smoking ban has come into effect, ventilation systems can be designed on lower ventilation quantities, reducing capital outlay for the client initially and also reducing running costs for the building as smaller more efficient plant can be selected.

Also, ventilation in some sections of the leisure/recreational sector is still required at fairly high levels, as the move away from a smoke-affected environment is unmasking some other odour issues which need to be addressed.
