Competent persons scheme

Friday, 25th May 2007

The latest Building Regulations require specific types of installation, both M&E, to be notified to the Local Authorities on completion. The notification is designed to certify the compliance of the installations in question.

As from April 2006, the Government have introduced a scheme whereby an organisation could become registered under the Competent Persons Scheme, enabling that business to self certify that their work does indeed comply with the Building Regulations, and in order to do this such businesses should have Accredited Certifiers on their staff.

During recent months, we have applied and been accepted as meeting the requirements of the Competent Persons Scheme for a number of types of installations. We have trained and registered Accredited Certifiers, and in order to ensure our continued competency, our Company is verified and assessed by an external third party certification body BM TRADA.

Although the Local Authorities are having some difficulty implementing this certification scheme, we are able to undertake this element of work on your behalf as failure to register installations in the correct way is illegal.
