Carbon reduction - threats and opportunities

The building services engineering sector has a great deal to gain from increasing global commitment to carbon reduction and energy conservation, however Government legislation does pose a number of threats to organisations along the way. Not only are many energy sources insecure, but legislation is demanding that we either reduce our usage of carbon-based fuels, or we pay up. Through legislation, the carbon reduction commitment is now extended to all significant businesses and is also moving into the domestic sector.

Renewable technologies are unfortunately still applied as an optional extra, whereas by now this should be the norm. At Shouksmiths, we have invested a considerable amount of resources to train our engineers and operatives to both design and install renewable technologies.

Helping with refrigerant handling

Other green-based legislation surrounds the use of refrigerants which are present in nearly all air conditioning systems. The greatest risk to the environment is the lack of control when handling refrigerants, as the damage done when such products are released into the atmosphere is considerable. It is now a requirement that any organisation who handles refrigerants in any way must be registered to do so, and that the engineer performing the task should have the relevant capabilities and accreditation.

We can help you to deliver energy efficient projects, and we can help to protect you from potential prosecution in terms of refrigerant handling. Please contact us for details.
