A starring role for Morfitts at new ODEON Cinema, Wrexham
Monday, 16th March 2009
In another project for main contractor Multibuild, Morfitts has just successfully completed the £1.5 million mechanical and electrical contract at the new ODEON Cinema at the Eagles Meadow shopping complex, Wrexham. Due to open mid- March, the eight-screen multiplex cinema will feature the town’s first 3D screen.
The project, which started on site in November, comprised a high specification building services installation in the foyer, auditoriums and public areas along with the associated back of house areas and projection room. Heating and cooling to the individual auditoriums is provided via roof mounted direct gas fired air handling units with inbuilt chillers, with quite stringent sound ratings for both the actual auditoriums and the local surrounding areas.
The installation also featured lighting to the auditoriums, which is provided via dimmable LED’s linked directly to the cinema projection equipment for automatic control on the start and completion of a movie, plus fire alarm, voice evacuation and emergency lighting systems, which are all linked to the projection and sound equipment.
In addition to working on new build projects, Morfitts has also undertaken maintenance services work for ODEON Cinemas for a number of years.
Lee Collyer, Multibuild Contracts Manager said: “This is the second project that Multibuild has completed for ODEON and we’re glad to say it’s gone extremely well. Morfitts played an important role in making the scheme as successful as it was. Their experienced staff are proactive, friendly and provide an excellent quality service and installation. We look forward to continuing this relationship together on future projects.”
