More tea sir? Morfitts completes another project for Betty’s Café Tea Rooms in Harrogate

Working once more for the famous Yorkshire-based Betty’s Café Tea Rooms, building services engineers Morfitts has recently completed the mechanical services contract at the company’s Harrogate Café expansion and refurbishment project, working with main contractor William Anelays Ltd.

Starting on site in November 2007, the project was undertaken whilst the cafe continued to trade, which required very careful planning and execution on behalf of all parties involved. Morfitts has previously worked for Betty’s on similar projects at their other Cafes across Yorkshire, and the experience gained on those projects proved invaluable in ensuring that only minimal disruption was caused to the existing Harrogate operation whilst the work was undertaken.

The project comprised installing all the mechanical services and plumbing works, including LPHW heating via gas fired condensing boilers to serve radiators, chilled beams and AHUs, the cooling element being served from a roof mounted chiller. There is one ventilation system that serves kitchen areas on three levels, and a second system which provides the ventilation to the cafe areas.

A fully automatic building services control system has been installed to control all services.

Paul Baldwin,

Morfitts’ Divisional Contracts Director said: "We have worked on projects for Betty’s for over twenty years, including at their specialist Craft Bakery in Harrogate and their six famous tea rooms around the region. During that time we have developed a very clear understanding of their specific needs, plus a very positive working relationship with their team.

Betty’s are renowned world-wide for their first class products and their high standards of customer service, and although we offer a very different kind of service we too are committed to delivering excellence in all that we do."

Chris Quinn, Anelay Contracts Manager added, "It’s been a rewarding challenge for all involved, requiring joined up thinking to get the job done. The level of workmanship has been to the highest of standards and we believe that the finished result speaks for itself."

Architect and project coordinator for the contract was Nicholas Associates.

Morfitts also carry out the preventative and reactive maintenance services for all Betty’s Café Tea Rooms in Yorkshire.
